The Roar of the Crowd
C
I wrote this letter 10 years ago feeling disheartened and let down by a situation that I know many others have experienced. It was my first World’s as a senior lady, a totally new landscape of competition in its own right. To have what felt like a massive injustice be thrown at me on top of that left me feeling frustrated and hopeless.

Resilience in the Face of Difficulty

Hi, my name is Meabh Conneely, and I dance for the Hession school (Cúige Connacht, Ireland). I’m so grateful to the EOLAS team for kindly letting me share my story of having to dance through both physical and mental disabilities.

My Friendship with Ian
07/27/2021

Ian was such a great friend, but not in a conventional way. He wouldn’t be the type of person to come up to you and have a long conversation about gossip over the weekend, or to arrange a meet-up over a coffee etc, which if you didn’t know Ian well, could come across as short, or unsociable. But when you know Ian, you know that he was, in fact, the complete opposite of short or unsociable! He was the type to come into dance class and say nothing, just observe for the entire class, and a week later, come up to you and say “by the way, you were really good in class last week”. Just a short 1 liner, but coming from Ian it was so special because you knew he was really thinking about you that whole time and was giving you a genuine compliment. I think that is the word that embodies Ian as a friend; genuine.
